Isotherm Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and controls commissioning services for a Humber College data centre supporting a multi-function academic facility. The scope focused on validating the performance of all energy-related and mission-critical systems in accordance with the OPR, BOD, and construction documentation.
Commissioning Levels (Cx 1–5)
A structured commissioning process was executed, including:
- Installation verification and calibration
- Start-up and pre-functional testing
- Functional performance testing
- Full-load integrated systems testing
Systems Commissioned
- Multistack air-cooled chiller with primary pumps
- Güntner dry coolers
- APC in-row cooling units
- Nortec humidification systems
- Siemens DDC / BAS controls
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- APC UPS systems
- Emergency generators
- Glycol/water loop TAB review and verification
Integrated Systems Testing Highlights
- Data hall tested at 100% design load (160 kW)
- Sequential failure testing of in-row cooling units to verify redundancy
- Monitoring of chilled water temperatures, cold aisle temperatures, return air temperatures, and room humidity
- Validation of automatic system response, alarm generation, and recovery during simulated fault conditions
Project Outcomes
- Confirmed cooling and power resilience under part-load and full-load conditions (25%, 50%, 75% & 100%)
- Verified alarm, control, and recovery sequences
- Reduced operational and commissioning risk
- Delivered a stable, reliable, and operationally ready data centre
