Isotherm Engineering Ltd. was founded by David Underwood in 1975 as a Design-Build contractor with Mechanical Engineering services. Over the years Isotherm has evolved into its current structure that includes Engineering, Commissioning, and Design-Build construction.
In 1991 Don Stepien joined Isotherm and now serves as Isotherm’s President.
Commencing with ASHRAE as enthusiastic members of the Technical Committee (TC1.7) Operation and Maintenance Management, we became involved at ASHRAE with the Commissioning Process subject. Bill McCartney (an HVAC&R contractor in Sarnia, Ontario) formed HVAC Commissioners Inc. upon returning from the 1989 ASHRAE Chicago Winter meeting after presenting a seminar paper on “Commissioning from the Contractors Point of View”. Bill went on providing Commissioning services for the public sector buildings throughout southwestern Ontario. In 1997, the demands for Commissioning services were primarily around the Toronto area and Bill joined Isotherm Engineering.
Isotherm’s “hands on” engineering with contracting and mechanical service operations, added the trade related commissioning field experience with refrigeration, DDC control systems, as well as, Bill’s 15 years experience operating his own HVAC&R service business.
With the addition of Derek Cheung, the current business partners leverage more than 120 years of practical experience to every project that Isotherm delivers.
